Program Details

  • Calvary Kids strives to provide a well-rounded, nurturing, developmentally appropriate education that emphasizes creativity and curiosity. We believe children learn through doing, through play, and through meaningful interactions with others. We want to create a home-like environment in which to attempt challenges, laugh, create, and develop strong bonds with peers and teachers.

Our curriculum is rich in literature, music, art, dramatic play, movement, science, character development, social interaction, and early literacy/math skills. We desire to expose children to the wonder of ideas and foster their critical thinking skills.

We understand that children develop academically at different paces with varying strengths, so we work to provide multiple ways for them to engage in learning. Through hands-on materials and active play, we cover alphabet recognition and writing, early math skills, and other basic academic concepts. Each child will benefit at his/her level, while also becoming prepared for later school success.

We also believe that social, physical, and emotional well-being are at the heart of preschool education. We work to encourage empathy and cooperation, problem-solving, independent self-help skills, gross and fine motor development, and emotional regulation. Once again, these skills are a natural part of our day, as we work, play, socialize, create, and think together.

    A typical day includes:

    • Free choice activities, such as blocks, dramatic play, sensory table, manipulatives, and books

    • Group times, including stories, games, music, poems, movement, experiments, and discussions

    • Thematic activities, including art, science, and literature-based projects

    • Outdoor time, with water and sand play, gross motor movement, gardening, and creative games

    • Snack time

    • Individual or small group time for directed learning activities

Finally, as a faith-based Christian ministry, we will share the love of Jesus Christ with children in practical ways. We will say a prayer before snack, read Bible stories pertinent to a theme or holiday, and incorporate Bible verses and songs into the curriculum. Mostly, we will love the children and allow our faith and values to guide interactions and conversations.

  • We accept children who are three by August 31st of the school year, through 5 years old (pre- K). Children must also be fully toilet trained. We have a limit of 14 children, and will maintain a waitlist for students for the current year.

  • We are open Monday-Thursday 8:15-12:15, following the San Juan school district calendar. We are closed for Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving break (Wednesday-Thursday), Winter Break, MLK Day, President’s Day, Mid-Winter Break, Spring Break, and Memorial Day. In the event of inclement weather, we follow the school district’s determination, in that w will be closed whenever they decide to close or have a late start.

  • Calvary Kids Preschool is a ministry of Calvary San Juan; therefore, we do not charge a definitive tuition; A minimum $400 per month donation is suggested to cover expenses of the program, including teacher salaries, insurance costs, program expenses, etc.
